We all like a bit of romance, especially when it involves Martin! I've been thinking about the romantic moments he has shared with the ladies in Space 1999, and which ones are my particular favourites.

The kiss between John and Helena in 'The Mark of Archanon' is SO romantic, I just love the way she teases him with her head movements - keeping him guessing! The very passionate kiss in the caves in the episode 'Journey to Where' is another romantic moment that springs immediately to mind. It is so emotional, Martin shedding real tears as he holds Helena close.

Which romantic moments do you enjoy?

For me it HAS to be the kiss between Maya and Koenig in year two's "New Adam, New Eve."

Jean, I've been thinking about this and as much as I adore the romantic moments we have of the Commander, I always come back to that beautiful kiss between him and Helena at the very end of "The Mark of Archanon". Another kiss that I adore is between John and Vana in "The Missing Link",

but the other kiss in "Archanon" wins my vote because of sheer adorability! So full of hope and promise in their uncertain world.

You are also right about that passionate kiss in "Journey to Where". The sheer desparation of all he's feeling in that kiss that produced tears.

Chance, I also love the kiss that the Commander and Maya shared in "New Adam, New Eve"! Very powerful as they were doing their best to fight against it. It's a beautiful moment and I love the atmosphere of that scene. I also thought of this as it's one of my favorites. (I just wish that scene had been lit a bit better!)

Ultimately, the most profoundly moving moment of all for me is in "The Missing Link", near the end when John knew that he had to leave Vana:

Vana - "What do I do til then? At this moment all I understand is my love for you. I do not want you to leave me."

John - "Then cross the bridge between your world and mine."

Vana - "I do not know how."

John - "With your mind and with your heart. As long as you think of me, feel for me, I'll be with you."

Vana - "I will try. Do not forget me. Do not forget me..."

Miranda, thank you for posting that gorgeous picture of the Commander and Vana. What a wonderful kiss that was, and the actress playing Vana certainly looks as if she was enjoying herself Wink Do you know, when I was trying to recall the romantic moments I enjoyed I had completely forgotten about that kiss!

Chance, thank you for reminding me about the kiss between Koenig and Maya in 'New Adam, New Eve'. I have seen other forums discuss this kiss and just how hot it was. There certainly appears to be a good chemistry between Martin and Catherine. The kiss between Tony Anholt and Barbara Bain was quite tame in comparison. I wonder how Barbara felt about Catherine kissing her man Question Miranda, you're right about the lighting in this scene. It was filmed in that hazy sort of lighting they use for romantic scenes, but this effect was used far too heavily in this particular scene. If we are going to have such a hot kiss involving Martin we want to be able to see it don't we. Laughing

Jean, I'm not sure how BB felt about Martin kissing Catherine, but he certainly had nothing to fear about her kissing Tony, haha! No, nothing against Tony but I'm just a hopeless case because to me, where Martin is concerned, there is absolutely no comparison. Romantic moments in Space 1999 Loveya

I have also noticed the chemistry between Catherine and Martin. I know he wasn't happy with may of the situations of series two but in spite of that, he seemed to share a wonderful camaraderie with Catherine. And unless I'm reading too much into it, she seems to have enjoyed working closely with him very much. From the accounts I've read in Starlog magazine and other sources, Martin and BB must have been arguing quite a bit behind the scenes of second season, so it may have been rather a respite for him to have Catherine around as a bit of a calming effect.

Jean, I'm all for your idea of adequate lighting for all of Martin's romantic scenes and better definition -- some things just have to be seen in great detail!
(Leave the dark and atmospheric haziness to the room we're viewing him in. What a Face

It must have been very difficult for Martin and Barbara, seeing as they had to work together all day and then had to go home together at the end of the day for more arguments!
